Each of those routes water differently and each responds to different instruments, and the affected area is frequently in a different construction from the failure. It is a short stage and it prevents the common outcome of a confident reading taken in the one part of the house where that method does not work.

The basement flooded overnight with no plumbing failure found. What happened?

The most likely explanation is that the pumped drainage stopped.
